Testing and assessment development.

Actualizado: 11 abr

We collaborated with all the English teachers to administer three comprehensive English tests throughout the year, in addition to the monthly tests mandated by the Ministry of Education. These tests were conducted in a large meeting room, with students seated separately to prevent cheating.

A notable and innovative feature of these tests was the peer correction component. After each class completed their test, we exchanged the answer sheets among classes and asked students to correct each other's papers. This approach not only encouraged collaboration and peer learning but also helped students develop critical thinking and analytical skills by evaluating and providing feedback on their peers' work. It promoted a supportive learning environment where students could learn from each other's mistakes and improve their understanding of English language concepts.

During our second English test, we introduced an oral component in addition to the traditional written portion. This addition allowed us to assess students' oral communication skills, providing a more comprehensive evaluation of their language proficiency.

We developed a 4-color evaluation system for the English test.

  • RED (from 0% to 30%): In VERY BAD conditions / Need to work VERY HARD.

  • YELLOW (31% to 60%): In BAD conditions / Need to WORK HARD.

  • GREEN (61% to 90%): In GOOD conditions / KEEP WORKING.

  • PURPLE (91% to 100%): In EXCELLENT conditions / KEEP WORKING.

The students' levels were projected on the wall on a graph. Students were asked to move up in color for the next test.
